Philadelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott announces retirement from NFL

Boston Scott, a running back who played six seasons primarily with the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, via a statement on his social media accounts.[1]

The 5-foot-6 (1.68 m) Scott played college football at Louisiana Tech University in Conference USA before being selected by the Eagles in the sixth round, 227th overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft.[2]

In 75 regular-season games, including 12 starts, Scott rushed for 1,281 yards on 232 carries with 12 touchdowns and added 341 receiving yards on 51 catches with four touchdowns. He also returned kicks and punts early in his career.[3]

Scott gained the nickname "Giants Killer" for standout performances against NFC East rival New York Giants, including 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries in a 34-10 win on December 26, 2021.[3][4]

His final regular-season game came on January 7, 2024, when the Eagles defeated the Giants 27-10 at MetLife Stadium. Scott appeared in three playoff games that season, carrying three times for 16 yards in Super Bowl LVII, a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on February 12, 2023.[3][5]

In 2024, Scott joined the Los Angeles Rams practice squad on October 8 before being released, then signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad on November 13 without appearing in any regular-season games.[1][6]

In his retirement statement, Scott expressed mixed emotions, writing, "There is so much I’m proud of... I don’t feel sorry for myself in the slightest. There is anger, bitterness, but also joy, and happiness." He credited coaches, teammates and his faith for his journey from college walk-on to the NFL.[1]

Off the field, Scott works as a content creator and part-owner with Dignitas, an esports organization.[7]
