Tiger Woods arrested on DUI charge after car crash in Florida

Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion American professional golfer, was arrested on March 27, 2026, in Martin County, Florida, following a car crash in Stuart.[1][2] He was booked into Martin County Jail and released later that evening on bail.[1][2]

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods was driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with another car, causing his car to roll over onto the driver's side.[2] Woods was alone in the vehicle, crawled out through the passenger door, and no injuries were reported.[1][2]

DUI investigators noted signs of impairment despite Woods registering 0.000 on a breath test for alcohol.[2] He refused a urine test, leading to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.[1][2]

A mugshot showed Woods with bloodshot eyes wearing a blue polo shirt.[1] He was later seen leaving jail in the passenger seat of a black SUV.[1]

This arrest marks Woods' second DUI-related incident. On May 29, 2017, Woods was arrested in Jupiter, Florida, after police found him asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle with hazard lights on; he registered 0.000 on a breathalyzer and charges were dropped in December 2017 after prosecutors determined prescription medications were the cause.[3][4]

Woods also sustained serious leg injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash on February 23, 2021, in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, requiring multiple surgeries and limiting his playing schedule.[5]

  • Charges: DUI (misdemeanor), property damage (misdemeanor), refusal to submit to a lawful test (misdemeanor)
  • Venue: Martin County Jail, Stuart, Florida
  • Career highlights: 15 major titles, 82 PGA Tour wins[6]
