Drew Lock Steps In For Injured Sam Darnold At Arizona
The Seattle Seahawks will start Drew Lock at quarterback on Sunday for their Week 2 road game against the Arizona Cardinals, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX. Sam Darnold, the team's starter, is sidelined by a glute injury sustained during Seattle's Week 1 win over the New England Patriots. The 29-year-old Lock takes over for a division matchup against Arizona, Seattle's NFC West rival.
Lock enters Sunday's start with a career built on both college success and NFL journeyman experience. He started for the Missouri Tigers from 2016-18 and was part of the program from 2015-18, leaving as the school's second all-time leader in passing yards (12,193) and passing touchdowns (99). His best individual season came in 2017, when he led the SEC in passing yards, touchdowns and passer rating, though he also led the conference in interceptions that year. all india marketing board tournament
Denver drafted Lock in the second round (No. 42 overall) in 2019, and he started 21 games for the Broncos over three seasons, including a full slate of 13 starts in 2020. He was later included in the March 2022 blockbuster trade that sent him, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and multiple draft picks to Seattle in exchange for Russell Wilson. After losing a training camp quarterback competition to Geno Smith that year, Lock made sporadic appearances for the Seahawks before spending the 2024 season with the New York Giants, where he made five starts as a fill-in for Daniel Jones. He returned to Seattle as Darnold's backup for the 2025 season.
Sunday's game will mark the 29th start of Lock's NFL career. He played the majority of Seattle's Week 1 victory over New England after entering in relief, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. His performance against Arizona will determine how long Seattle relies on him while Darnold's recovery timeline plays out.
